Jaspers schreef na de bestseller De stikstoffuik het boek De klimaatoptimist. Daarin legt hij uit dat we geen reden hebben om in paniek te raken over klimaatverandering.

Elk jaar, vlak voor de bijeenkomsten van de VN-klimaatconferentie (CoP), worden kleine stijgingen van de kooldioxide-concentratie in de atmosfeer en de mondiale temperatuur in de media afgeschilderd als voorbodes van een rampzalige toekomst. Elke extreme weersomstandigheid wordt voorgesteld als een onheilspellend voorteken van wat ons te wachten staat als fossiele brandstoffen niet worden afgeschaft.
