Het KNMI baseert zijn zwaarste klimaatscenario’s nog altijd op extreme uitstootpaden die internationaal steeds vaker als onrealistisch worden beschouwd. Toch vormen juist deze scenario’s de basis voor vergaande projecties over opwarming en zeespiegelstijging in Nederland. Volgens Rob de Vos dreigt daardoor een groeiende kloof te ontstaan tussen de nieuwste wetenschappelijke inzichten en het Nederlandse klimaatbeleid.
