Jaspers schreef na de bestseller De stikstoffuik het boek De klimaatoptimist. Daarin legt hij uit dat we geen reden hebben om in paniek te raken over klimaatverandering.

Terwijl westerse regeringen de taal van net zero blijven hanteren, breidt India de productie van steenkool, olie en aardgas in hoog tempo uit om zijn energiezekerheid en economische groei veilig te stellen. Door de handel in koolwaterstoffen met de Verenigde Staten en andere partners te versterken, bouwt India aan wat de auteur een ‘fossiele toekomst’ noemt, waarin betrouwbare en betaalbare energie voorrang krijgt boven klimaatbeloften.
