Jaspers schreef na de bestseller De stikstoffuik het boek De klimaatoptimist. Daarin legt hij uit dat we geen reden hebben om in paniek te raken over klimaatverandering.

Matthew Wielicki het droogjes verwoordde: “Is er iets wat CO₂ niet kan?” De studie achter deze opmerking stelt dat stijgende CO2-niveaus onder bepaalde omstandigheden zelfs tot regionale afkoeling kunnen leiden – wat onderstreept hoe flexibel – en onzeker – de resultaten van klimaatmodellen kunnen zijn.
